do electric acoustic guitars need a amp or can they play as loud as a acoustic?
i buying one but whats the difference between a electric acoustic or just regular acoustic also any tips on buying a guitar?
An acoustic-electric guitar will still sound like an acoustic guitar when it’s unplugged. Basically, it’s an acoustic guitar that has the electronics installed so you have the option of plugging in. There’s a pickup and preamp installed, so you can plug it into an amp if you want to play it at a club. But lots of acoustic-electric players never play through an amp.
The best advice I can give you about buying a guitar is to go to a guitar store and test drive a bunch of different brands. There’s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all guitar. If you’re a beginner, you’ll probably do better with a guitar that has a thin neck and low action (strings close to the fretboard), since those things will make it much easier and more comfortable to move smoothly between chords and notes.
I usually recommend Ibanez acoustics (or acoustic-electrics) for beginners, since they’ve got really thin necks and low action. They’re built like rocks, sound great and are often nicer than guitars costing twice as much. Takamine has an entry-level brand called Jasmine by Takamine and those are nice, low-priced guitars, as well. Most beginners, females and players with small hands find them comfortable to play. I’d avoid anything made by Epiphone, however, since they have really chunky necks that make them challenging for many people (including myself) to play. If you handle a bunch of different guitars, chances are you’ll find one brand that just feels more comfortable and natural in your hands than others. Trust your instincts, since they’ll serve you better than anyone else’s opinion. The more you love your guitar, the more you’ll practice and the sooner you’ll become a great guitarist. Good luck!
