Does it matter what type of wood your guitar is made of?
I’m planning on buying my second guitar, The first time i had just started taking lessons and i really wasn’t paying any attention to specifics like wood, pickups or anything like that so i want to know if the type of wood matters.
Yes, it makes a HUGE difference.
I’m assuming you’re talking electrics. Mahogany, alder, maple, and ash are good. They all have their advantages and disadvantages based upon what model you’re buying. Make sure that you research, because some things are better than others for certain things. For example, if you buy an Ash Strat, you definitely want to stay away from matching it with rosewood fingerboard due to tonal issues.
Completely stay away from basswood and agathis, especially if you live in a dry-ish climate west of the Mississippi. Cheap chinese/indonesian warpy wood.
Anyone who tells you that woods dont matter has no clue. It is the most important component part of your guitar
Edit: Idk what that dude above me learned from, but basswood is about the cheapest cr@p wood you can buy. The next step down is like frickn plywood.
