Can I put nylon strings on a steel string acoustic guitar and vice versa?
Lets say I have both a steel string dreadnaught, and a classical acousitc guitar. To experiment with different sounds can I put a set of nylon strings on the dreadnaught and a set of steel strings on the classical?
Are there any precautions or will doing something like this harm the guitars in anyway?
Putting nylon strings on a steel-strung guitar won’t do any harm but it will be very quiet and might sound awful.
Putting steel strings on a classiscal guitar would risk bending the neck due to the extra tension.
