should i buy a strat or an epiphone or both?
(guys, just wanted to ask you in first place not to say “it will be a waste of money”, because in my case money will not matter that much.)
guys i am planning on selling my Gibson SG Junior and my Ibanez RG, and buy a Fender Stratocaster Black Standard copy ($150 – $180) and/or an Epiphone Les Paul Special II Vintage Sunburst ($150 – $180). the thing is that i don’t want them to have a clean sound, like many people say the Fender is only good for clean sound, but not a very distorted sound either, like metal or stuff. the sound i actually wanted is the same or close to the one in “Dammit” by Blink-182 and “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses. so i wanted to know if the guitar actually matters that much, because many people also say the amp is what matters the most. so i ask you please give me your opinions about if i should buy a Fender Stratocaster Black Standard and/or/nor an Epiphone Les Paul Special II. thanks.
Hello there,
I would never, absolutely never trade a Gibson for an Epiphone. That is a big step down. If you have a real Gibson, that guitar a far better than the guitar you are planning on buying. A low end, poor quality Epiphone is not a very good guitar, for metal or any other type of music. Also selling an Ibanez RG to replace it with a cheap copy of a Strat is a lousy idea. The guitar you are parting with is much better than the one you are getting. Maybe wasting money is not a consideration to you. Must be nice to be so rich that wasting money is no longer an issue. However, I suspect it is not an issue because it is not your money you are wasting. Your parents must be flipping the bill for your foolishness.
Amp matters most? The amp and speakers are very important in how you will sound. That does not mean the choice of guitar is irrelevant. The choice of strings is not irrelevant. The choice of picks is not irrelevant. All are factors in how you sound. Some more than others, but all are factors. However, the biggest factor by far is the skill of the player.
You already have two very good guitars and are not satisfied with the sound. Replacing those with 2 low quality guitars are not going to improve your sound. If you cannot sound good with 2 good quality guitars, you need to improve your skills. Instead of buying more guitars, buy some lessons to learn how to play the guitars you already own.
Later,
